I love using old parts of London and other Towns & Cities and the retro feeling it brings to the pictures. Part of that is nostalgia the other is inspiration of old photographs. Like the countryside, so much has changed and been lost. I want to record what I see.
Always an inspiration, the older I get the more I love our countryside, its uniqueness and its seasons. So much has changed since I have been a photographer I feel the need to record for posterity.
All these stories are taken in Harlow, a new town on the edge of London, where I was brought up from the age of nine after moving from Tottenham. With its low cost, high-density housing and Brutalist public buildings, I have a great affection for its graphic blandness which still inspires the photographer in me.
I still live here.
During lock down I built a small daylight studio in the garden, the permitted build and budget decided on the results but I’m really enjoying shooting there and means I can keep going in the bleak winter months, when shooting on location can be tricky. These are the results.
Pictures used to illustrate stories or sometimes just for the sake of it. I have on occasions had pictures used for book covers and I love seeing designer’s selection of images to match their titles and how they use the image and use of fonts together take’s the picture to somewhere else
